The football federations of Latvia and Azerbaijan have signed an agreement to play a friendly match on June 7 in Rīga.
This year, the Latvian national team is set to participate in eight matches as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification. However, due to commercial obligations with UEFA, they are required to complete ten matches in a single calendar year. One of the available game windows is in June, prior to their match against Albania on June 10 in Rīga, while another window is open in November.
Historically, Latvia has faced Azerbaijan five times, achieving one victory and three draws. The most recent encounter occurred in March 2022 during a friendly match in Cyprus, where Latvia secured a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Vladislavs Gutkovskis in the 85th minute.
Details regarding the kick-off time and stadium will be announced at a later date.
