About the club
Džiugas Telšiai is one of the oldest football clubs in Lithuania, founded in 1923. Based in Telšiai, the club has a rich football tradition, and its home games are known for their lively atmosphere, thanks to the dedicated Džiugas Supporters. The club draws its name from the nearby Džiugas Mountain.
In 2013, a group of football enthusiasts in Telšiai sought to revitalize the city’s football scene by forming the organization “Telšiau futbolo ateitis”. With support from local authorities, they restructured the Telšiai Sports and Recreation Center and relaunched the football team as FC “Džiugas” in 2014. The team quickly advanced through the ranks, finishing second in the LFF II League Western Zone, which earned them promotion to the second division. By 2019, FC “Džiugas” had won the second division title but was denied a license for the highest league in 2020 due to financial constraints. In 2021, the team secured a place in the A Lyga once again, this time obtaining the necessary requirements for license, marking the return of top-tier football to Telšiai after 25 years. They finished 8th in their debut A Lyga season.
Today, the club is focused on establishing itself as a stable and competitive team in the A Lyga. In the 2024 season, FC “Džiugas” had its best finish in the club’s history —sixth place. The club started the season really well, rising as high as the second position half-way through the season, but the results collapsed in the second part of the season and they finished just three points short fourth place.
