In Matchday 6 of the TonyBet Virslīga, FS Jelgava conceded an early goal but dominated for the rest of the match, ultimately winning 4-1 at home against the in-form BFC Daugavpils. In the other match, the teams at the bottom of the table, SK Super Nova and FK Grobiņa, ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Daugavpils team, which had recently won two consecutive matches against Riga FC and FK Auda, both by a score of 2:1, visited Jelgava looking to make history against a team they had never beaten in the Virslīga. Meanwhile, FS Jelgava was eager to maintain its momentum after securing its first win of the season against Super Nova, also by a score of 2:1.

Jelgava’s manager, Aleksandrs Basovs, made one change to the lineup, bringing back Kristers Alekseičiks after a four-match injury absence. Daugavpils head coach Kirils Kurbatovs also made one change, giving Gambian Wally Fofana his first start since March 15.

Daugavpils started strong, opening the scoring in the 7th minute when Barthelemy Diedhiou fired a shot from outside the box into the bottom right corner, marking his third consecutive game with a goal. However, Jelgava quickly equalized just five minutes later. Ondrej Ullman’s cross found Kingsley Emenike, who headed the ball in from close range to make it 1:1.

As the first half progressed, FS Jelgava took the lead in the 29th minute. Czech midfielder David Holoubek scored with a long-range shot that beat goalkeeper Jānis Beks, who would have loved to have that one back.

In the second half, Jelgava looked for more goals and achieved just that. Kingsley Emenike scored his second goal of the game in the 55th minute, and right at the end of the match, another Czech player, Andriy Yuzvak, added the final goal, bringing the score to 4:1.

With this victory, FS Jelgava moved up to 6th place in the league table with 8 points, while Daugavpils, with 9 points, held onto 4th place after Matchday 6.

In the last match of Matchday 6, SK Super Nova hosted FK Grobiņa. Both teams entered the match on a three-game winless streak, hoping to turn things around. The opening goal came in the 27th minute when Ryuga Nakamura converted a penalty kick drawn by 18-year-old Kristaps Kļaviņš, who had received an elbow to the face from Tomass Mickevičs.

Just before halftime, Maksims Sidorovs, who was playing today in his unusual position as a center-back, found himself in the opposing penalty area and scored from close range, tying the game for Grobiņa and marking his first goal for the club.

In the second half, Super Nova struggled to create scoring opportunities, while Grobiņa dominated possession. However, they were unable to convert their chances against goalkeeper Frenks Orols, and the match ended in a 1:1 draw with both teams earning a point.
