About the club
The club originally started as a football school in 2000, focusing on youth tournaments. In 2007, the football school (FS Metta) merged with the University of Latvia to create a senior football team (FK Metta), which competed in the Latvian Virslīga. Players can also choose to study at the university on a scholarship basis. Metta was built with the goal of developing the best young talent in Latvia and helping them grow into players that could be sold to bigger clubs.
In 2020, FK Metta was the youngest top-tier team in all of Europe, with an average age of 19.5 by the end of the season. One of their standout players, Raimonds Krollis, who went through all levels of FK Metta academy, became the first academy graduate to play for Latvia’s national team in 2020.
The club’s goal is to help develop young Latvian players for the national team, and it has become one of the best academies in the Baltic region. Many players from FK Metta’s academy had gone on to represent Latvia and still continue to do so.
