Lithuanian national team striker Armandas Kučys, who suffered a serious injury during a World Cup qualifying match against Finland, had been on Juventus’s radar for a possible record transfer fee in the Slovenian league.
Two weeks ago in the game against Finland, where Kučys scored a goal, he also sustained a severe injury, tearing his anterior and lateral cruciate ligaments. His rehabilitation is expected to take about eight months.
The 22-year-old striker who plays for NK Celje in Slovenia, has been one of the best players in the league. According to Slovenian media SportKlub, initial discussions between the Slovenian club and Juventus were already underway regarding a significant summer transfer, with Celje potentially receiving a record fee of around €5.5 million. Juventus scouts were also present at the match where Kučys sustained his injury. SportKlub also reports that another club interested in Kučys was the Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
Before his injury, Kučys had scored 18 goals in all competitions for Celje this season and played a crucial role in helping the team reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Conference League, where they will face Serie A side Fiorentina.
