Members of the Lithuanian national football team participated in league matches across Europe today. Gvidas Gineitis made his 16th appearance in Serie A this season. In Slovenia, Tutyškinas made his debut, while Širvys contributed to his team’s victory. Utkus played a full game in Belgium and Gertmonas in Romania.
Serie A, Italy
Gvidas Gineitis made his 16th appearance in Serie A today, coming off the bench in the 75th minute as Torino drew 1-1 against Atalanta. This season, Gvidas has scored one goal and provided one assist. Torino currently sits in the middle of the Serie A table with 27 points after 23 games.
Prva Liga, Slovenia
Artemijus Tutyškinas made his debut in the Slovenian Prva Liga today. He entered the match as a substitute at the start of the second half, but his team, the defending champions NK Celje, suffered a 2-3 defeat at home against Bravo.
Currently, Celje is without another Lithuanian player, Armandas Kucys, who is still rehabilitating from a long-term injury sustained in a UEFA Conference League match.
Tutyškinas, who recently transferred to Celje from the Polish side LKS Lodz today played in his natural left-back position.
Due to this loss, Celje moved down to 5th place in the league table, while the leaders, Olimpija, can extend their lead to 12 points if they win their game in hand.
Another Lithuanian playing in the Slovenian league, Pijus Širvys, helped his team, Maribor, secure a 2-1 victory against Domžale at home. Širvys played the entire match, marking his 18th appearance of the season and contributing two assists.
Maribor currently holds 2nd place in the Slovenian Prva Liga table, just three points behind Olimpija Ljubljana.
Jupiler Pro League, Belgium
Edgaras Utkus played a full game for Cercle Brugge in the Jupiler Pro League as they drew 1-1 against St. Liege. This was Utkus’s 13th appearance in the league this season, and thanks to this point, Cercle Brugge moved up to 9th place in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League table.
SuperLiga, Romania
Lithuanian national team goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas helped Universitatea Cluj secure another victory, defeating Rapid București 2-1. Gertmonas made two saves during the match, and his team remains at the top of the Romanian SuperLiga table with 44 points after 24 games. They are closely followed by Dinamo București and FCSB, who are just three points behind.
Katergoria Superiore, Albania
In Albania, Sigitas Olberkis made his third appearance for his new club AF Elbasani, contributing to a 1-1 draw against KF Tirana away from home. The former FA Šiauliai defender played the entire match. Elbasani currently sits in 5th place in the league table with 29 points, ten points behind Dinamo Tirana, who is in 4th.
Serie C, Italy
Titas Krapikas helped ACR Messina secure a 2-1 victory over Latina in Serie C. This marked Krapikas’s 19th appearance of the season. Messina is currently trying to climb out of the relegation zone but is still six points short of safety, sitting in 18th place with 23 points.
Linas Megelaitis, another Lithuanian player in Serie C, played a full game as Rimini drew 1-1 against Perugia.
League One, England
Lastly, Lithuanian winger Tomas Kalinauskas came on the field in the 87th minute for Burton Albion in League One, as they played to a goalless draw against Barnsley. Kalinauskas has made 27 appearances this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists, though he has been getting fewer minutes lately. Burton Albion currently finds itself in the relegation zone, sitting in 21st place with 25 points.
