FK Kauno Žalgiris has announced the signing of former Lithuanian National Team goalkeeper Tomas Švedkauskas. In contrast, Ignas Plūkas, who served as a backup goalkeeper last season, will be leaving the team as his contract has expired.

Švedkauskas, 30, joined FK Paņevezys before the start of the 2024 season but unfortunately only played three A Lyga matches due to an Achilles tear that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

“I am thrilled to have received the offer, and I want to express my gratitude to the coaching staff and the club for the trust they have shown in me. I will do my best to repay that trust with maximum dedication and effort in training every day, striving to improve myself and the entire team,” Švedkauskas said in an interview with Žalgiris.lt.

With experience playing abroad in Italy, Portugal, Romania, and Belgium, the former Lithuanian National Team goalkeeper is looking to make a strong comeback for the 2025 season. He will be competing for the starting goalkeeper position with Deividas Mikelionis, who has made 250 appearances across all competitions for the club.

Ignas Plūkas, now 31, departs from FK Kauno Žalgiris after two seasons, during which he made a total of 20 appearances, 18 of them in the A Lyga.
