While Matchday 11 of the Premium liiga was, perhaps, not as full of surprises as Matchday 10, two games stood out – Kalju versus Levadia and Paide versus Kuressaare.
Premium liiga is charging ahead, already having completed 11 matchdays of the 2025 season. While Levadia still sit atop of the league table, their lead is less solid compared to what it was even a few weeks ago. Only two points ahead of their arch-rivals FC Flora and three points of third place Paide and fouth place Kalju, Levadia are beginning to show that the stress and pace of the early-season Estonian fixture calendar may be chipping away at the foundations of defending Champions.
Levadia came into Matchday 11 with 10 out of 15 possible points and a recent 2-1 loss to Paide. Up against in-form Kalju, who won all of their matches in the same stretch of the Championship, Levadia had a choice to either reverse their recent misfortunes or to get knocked down. While they appear to have chosen the former, the result was the latter. Despite dominating every part of the game, Levadia failed to make any of their 18 shots on goal or 9 shots on target count as Kalju’s 21 year old Goalkeeper Pavlov proved unbeatable. Kalju were much more clinical and scored two of their four shots on target, pulling off another upset, having narrowly beat Flora in the week prior. Thanks to these results, Kalju are now tied on points for third with Paide.
Paide did not have as good of a time during Matchday 11 as Kalju did, failing to overcome minnows Kuressaare. Despite Paide opening the score as early as 3 minutes into the match, Kuressaare’s Iljin equalised 4 minutes later and the score held at 1-1 for the remainder of the match despite Paide dominating every single aspect of the game and delivering 25 shots on goal. Vikings, for their part, managed only 1 shot on target but they made it count and, at the end of the day, it was enough to secure a valuable point.
