Alex Matthias Tamm says he is moving in the right direction after a difficult year, with the Estonia forward back from injury and hoping to earn a regular place at Olimpija Ljubljana. A team-mate’s careless scissor kick in only his second pre-season training session nearly left him facing a lengthy spell in hospital, but Tamm escaped with a shorter lay-off.
A loan spell at Livingston in Scotland during the spring went badly, but Tamm has felt renewed trust and support since returning to Olimpija. His goals helped the Slovenian club win the league title in spring 2025. After missing much of pre-season, he had to watch from the sidelines before making his first appearance in a cup match that went poorly for the team.
Tamm made his league return as a substitute last Sunday, playing five minutes before joining the Estonia squad. With Rauno Sappinen and Henri Anier both ruled out, the 25-year-old is the most experienced forward in the current squad, with 21 caps and two goals. Karel Mustmaa and Mattias Männilaan have eight appearances between them, with Mustmaa also having scored once.
