The victory extended Werder’s unbeaten league run to seven matches and lifted them to fourth place in the standings.
Werder made a promising start and nearly opened the scoring in the third minute. Ludovit Reis received a pass inside the penalty area but sent his effort narrowly wide.
Hoffenheim gradually took control and created a dangerous opportunity midway through the first half. In the 23rd minute, defender Ozan Kabak rose to meet a cross near the goalmouth, but his header flew just over the crossbar.
Hoffenheim continued to threaten towards the end of the opening half, with Adam Hložek getting into promising shooting positions on several occasions. However, neither side managed to break the deadlock before the interval.
The decisive moment arrived in the 57th minute, with Hein playing a crucial role in Werder’s opening goal.
The Estonian goalkeeper launched a long ball into Hoffenheim’s half, where the visiting defenders failed to clear the danger. Füllkrug reacted quickest, collected possession and advanced into the penalty area before unleashing a powerful left-footed strike into the top corner.
The goal gave Werder a 1-0 advantage and earned Hein an assist, while Füllkrug continued his remarkable scoring form with his 11th goal in his last eight appearances.
Hoffenheim pushed forward in search of an equaliser and came close through Fisnik Asllani, whose header narrowly missed the left post.
However, Werder managed to withstand the visitors’ pressure before sealing the victory in the closing stages. Eren Dinkci produced an excellent curling effort into the top-right corner to double the hosts’ advantage and complete a 2-0 victory.
Hein, who was required to make just one save throughout the match, recorded his first clean sheet of the season in his eighth Bundesliga appearance.
The result extended Werder Bremen’s unbeaten run in the German top flight to seven matches and lifted them to fourth place in the league standings.
Werder will return to Bundesliga action next Saturday when they travel to face Stuttgart.
