RFS strengthened their grip on first place in the Tonybet Virsliga with a 1-0 away win over Tukums 2000 on Monday.
Tukums began dangerously and twice threatened in the opening moments, but Jevgēnijs Nerugals kept his goal intact. As is customary in the games between these opponents, RFS scored the opening goal early, as Darko Lemajič connected a header from Dmitrijs Zelenkovs’ left side cross in the ninth minute. Moments after going behind, however, Tukums thought they had equalised, only for the assistant’s flag to go up. A VAR check confirmed the offside decision.
Kristaps Dišlers was forced into an early change when Shun Shibata had to be brought off midway through the first half due to injury, with Valmiers taking his place. RFS controlled more of the ball before the break but did not add a second.
Lemajič went close again after the whistle, failing to connect with another delivery across the six-yard box. Tukums’ best chance came in the 76th minute when Joksts hit the post from a corner, while Nerugals was required late on to preserve the clean sheet.
Tukums’ matchday squad did not include RFS loanees Sergejs Vilkovs and Maksym Derkach, both of whom started against Riga FC in the previous round, and their bench was limited to five players as a result.
RFS moved to 62 points from 24 matches, four clear of Riga FC who have a game in hand, while Tukums remain ninth on 17 points.
