Ogre United relegated from Virslīga after heavy home defeat to Auda

Despite taking an early lead through Leif Estevez Fernandez, the hosts conceded four unanswered goals, including two penalties converted by Eduards Dašķevičs, as their remaining mathematical hopes of avoiding the drop disappeared.
The hosts started positively and nearly opened the scoring inside five minutes when Estevez Fernandez found space on the right side of the penalty area, only to send his effort narrowly wide.
Auda gradually settled into the contest, with Andrews Appiah testing Ogre goalkeeper Kristers Jānis Biščuhis from long range in the 12th minute. However, it was the home side who struck first midway through the opening half.
In the 24th minute, Estevez Fernandez controlled a cross from Ingars Pūlis inside the penalty area, lifted the ball into the air and produced an excellent finish into the top-left corner. The goal gave Ogre United a 1-0 advantage and marked the first time in the club’s history that they had taken the lead against Auda.
Their celebrations were short-lived, however, as the visitors responded just eight minutes later. Following a headed pass from Moussa Ouedraogo during a counterattack, Appiah controlled the ball on the left side of the penalty area before curling an impressive right-footed effort into the bottom-right corner to restore parity.
The match then took a dramatic turn in the closing minutes of the first half, with Auda awarded two penalties in quick succession. The first came in the 43rd minute when Kristers Čudars fouled Mohamed Fofana inside the penalty area. Dašķevičs stepped up and calmly converted from the spot, sending his effort down the middle to put Auda ahead for the first time.
Remarkably, the visitors were awarded another penalty just moments later after Vadym Mashchenko brought down Fofana inside the box. Dašķevičs again took responsibility, this time firing his left-footed effort into the top-right corner to complete his brace and give Auda a commanding 3-1 lead at half-time.
Ogre United attempted to respond after the restart, with Pūlis forcing Auda goalkeeper Nils Puriņš into a save in the 49th minute. However, the visitors soon regained control and continued creating opportunities.
Daniels Balodis and Olabanjo Ogunji both tested Biščuhis, while Hussaini Ibrahim also came close to extending Auda’s advantage. The Ogre goalkeeper was kept busy throughout the second half, producing several saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming even more one-sided.
The hosts made a triple substitution shortly before the hour mark in an attempt to change the course of the match, but struggled to generate meaningful attacking pressure. Markuss Kalniņš sent an effort over the crossbar in the 64th minute, while Auda continued to dominate possession and dictate the tempo.
With the outcome effectively decided, Auda added a fourth goal in the second minute of stoppage time. Substitute Mohamoud Fofana received a pass from Youba Traore on the left side of the penalty area and unleashed an excellent right-footed strike into the top-right corner, sealing a comprehensive 4-1 victory.
The defeat officially confirms Ogre United’s relegation from the Virslīga with two rounds remaining. The newcomers have collected just 18 points and four victories from their opening 34 matches, leaving them unable to escape the bottom of the standings.
After securing a historic promotion in 2025, Ogre United will return to the Latvian First League in 2027, bringing their maiden top-flight campaign to an end after just one season.
