Corryn provides three assists as Grobiņa beat Ogre United
Grobiņa secured their sixth victory of the 2026 Latvian Virslīga season with a 3-2 home win over bottom-placed Ogre United, whose hopes of avoiding relegation continue to fade. Belgian midfielder Milan Corryn provided assists for all three of the hosts’ goals, leaving the league newcomers six points adrift of safety with just three matches remaining.

Grobiņa created the first significant opportunities, with Hirotaka Yamada testing goalkeeper Nikita Parfjonovs in the 14th minute after being picked out by Corryn. The Belgian midfielder had also seen an effort go wide moments earlier.
The hosts took the lead in the 18th minute following a corner. Corryn delivered an accurate cross into the penalty area, where captain Dāvids Družiņins rose to head into the bottom corner for his second goal of the season.
Despite falling behind, Ogre remained competitive and created several opportunities before the interval. Leif Estevez Fernandez tested Grobiņa goalkeeper Roberts Ozols from distance, while Markuss Ivulāns had an effort blocked inside the penalty area.
At the other end, Maksims Sidorovs was denied from close range by Parfjonovs in the 36th minute, preventing Grobiņa from doubling their advantage.
Ogre continued to threaten, with Kristers Čudars forcing Ozols into a save with a header before Fernandez also tested the goalkeeper. Ivulāns then missed a promising opportunity following a corner shortly before half-time, leaving the visitors trailing 1-0 at the break.
The second half began with both sides searching for opportunities. Čudars came close to equalising in the 57th minute, heading narrowly over from close range after a delivery by Ivulāns.
However, Grobiņa doubled their advantage in the 61st minute. Corryn supplied Dodo outside the penalty area, and the experienced Brazilian produced a precise right-footed finish into the bottom corner.
Ogre responded with two substitutions and soon found a way back into the contest. In the 68th minute, Rendijs Šibass saw his shot blocked by the hand of Oladotun Olatunde-Matthew inside the penalty area, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Čudars stepped up and confidently converted into the bottom-left corner in the 70th minute, reducing the deficit to 1-2 and giving the visitors renewed hope of a comeback.
However, that optimism lasted barely a minute. Grobiņa immediately restored their two-goal advantage when Corryn delivered another excellent cross from the right flank. Japanese midfielder Yamada won the aerial duel at the far post and headed home from close range to make it 3-1.
Ogre refused to surrender and continued searching for a route back into the match. Čudars tested Ozols from distance in the 80th minute, while Marks Pačepko headed narrowly wide following a cross from Artem Marchuk.
Their persistence was rewarded in the 86th minute when Markuss Kalniņš finished into the bottom-left corner from the centre of the penalty area after being set up by Šibass, reducing Grobiņa’s lead to 3-2.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser during the remaining minutes, but Grobiņa held firm. Fernandez had one final opportunity in stoppage time, although his effort from outside the penalty area was comfortably saved by Ozols.
The result leaves Ogre United facing an increasingly difficult battle to preserve their Virslīga status. With three matches remaining, they sit bottom of the standings, six points behind ninth-placed Tukums 2000.
Ogre must still face Auda, Riga FC and Jelgava, while Tukums have four fixtures remaining against RFS, Liepāja, Daugavpils and Auda. Even if Tukums fail to collect another point, Ogre would need at least seven points from their remaining three matches to move above them.
