Premium Liiga leaders Levadia missed the opportunity to take another decisive step towards the title after being held to a 1-1 draw by bottom side Narva Trans. Wendell gave the visitors an early lead, but Ahmad Gero equalised after the break before Trans were reduced to ten men and survived sustained late pressure to earn a valuable point.
Levadia travelled to Narva knowing that victory, combined with Flora losing against Pärnu Vaprus later in the day, would have been enough to mathematically secure the championship. Trans, meanwhile, remained rooted to the bottom of the table and in desperate need of points in their battle for survival.
Despite Levadia dominating possession from the opening minutes, Trans showed early attacking ambition. Murad Velijev delivered a dangerous ball across goal that Gero narrowly failed to reach, while Yenerey Betancor forced Karl Andre Vallner into a save moments later. However, it was the league leaders who struck first after only five minutes.
Following a spell of pressure inside the Trans penalty area, Joseph Saliste collected the ball on the left and delivered it back into the box, where Wendell rose to head past Iker Venteo and give Levadia an early 1-0 advantage.
The visitors continued to control possession but were unable to pull away. Nikoloz Kutateladze was denied by Venteo from close range, while Maksimilian Skvortsov and Mark Oliver Roosnupp also tested the Trans goalkeeper. Venteo produced several important saves to keep his side within one goal.
Trans were not without opportunities of their own. Betancor remained dangerous on the counterattack, while Velijev repeatedly looked to create from the flank. The hosts threatened again when Stanislav Agaptšev delivered into the penalty area for Betancor, whose attempt was blocked before Vallner gathered the loose ball. Levadia nevertheless took their narrow 1-0 advantage into the break.
The hosts began the second half with renewed energy. Betancor intercepted a pass from Tanel Tammik and immediately tried his luck from distance, forcing Vallner into an excellent save near the top corner. Wisdom Awusi then produced an impressive individual run before being denied by the Levadia goalkeeper.
Trans finally received their reward in the 58th minute. A short corner eventually found Tomas Berardozzi, whose delivery into the penalty area was met by Gero, with the forward directing his header beyond Vallner to make it 1-1.
The momentum shifted again only minutes later when Velijev was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Joao Pedro, catching the Levadia substitute from behind. With Trans reduced to ten men, the league leaders immediately increased the pressure in search of a second goal.
Levadia thought they had restored their advantage when Wendell’s effort came back off the crossbar and Rasmus Peetson headed the rebound into the net. The goal was ruled out, however, after Peetson was penalised for pushing Aleksander Filatov.
Venteo continued to frustrate the visitors, denying Joao Pedro and reacting quickly to several dangerous situations inside his penalty area. Wendell then came agonisingly close to scoring his second when he lifted the ball over the goalkeeper, only for Cristian Campagna to clear it off the line. Mihkel Ainsalu collected the loose ball and fired another effort on target, but Venteo was again equal to it.
Despite playing the final half-hour with ten men, Trans still looked for opportunities on the counterattack. Substitute Doke helped launch one promising move before Gero delivered the ball back across goal, where Victory Iboro made an important intervention.
Levadia continued to push until the final whistle, but Trans defended their penalty area with determination. Filatov produced a crucial late block to deny Joao Pedro from close range, and the hosts survived four minutes of stoppage time to secure a 1-1 draw.
The result means Levadia’s title celebrations will have to wait until after the international break.
