Virslīga leaders RFS recovered from a difficult start to earn a 1-1 draw away against Auda in the final match of the 31st round. Kader Kone gave the hosts a deserved lead before Rostand Ndjiki equalised shortly before half-time, while Auda also suffered an injury concern as captain Eduards Dašķevičs was forced off after only 20 minutes.
Auda made an aggressive start and threatened almost immediately, with Dašķevičs testing Rihards Matrevics inside the opening minute. The hosts thought they had taken the lead shortly afterwards when Daniels Balodis put the ball into the net, but a lengthy VAR review eventually ruled the goal out for offside in the build-up.
The hosts continued to cause problems and eventually received their reward in the 21st minute. Edvin Bongemba created the opportunity from the left before finding Kone inside the penalty area, with the forward finishing first time into the far corner to make it 1-0.
By then, however, Auda had already suffered a significant setback. Dašķevičs, who has been in excellent form and was recently named in Latvia’s squad for the upcoming international window, was forced to leave the pitch through injury in the 20th minute, with Wally Fofana replacing the Auda captain.
Auda remained dangerous after taking the lead, with Andrews Appiah coming close to doubling the advantage when his deflected effort struck the crossbar. RFS gradually settled into the contest and found their equaliser in the 43rd minute.
Balodis was unable to intercept the ball with a sliding challenge, allowing Lasha Odisharia space to deliver from the left. His cross found Ndjiki in the penalty area, and the forward directed a header into the top corner to send the teams into half-time level at 1-1.
RFS created more pressure after the restart. Nils Puriņš denied Ndjiki from close range before Herdi Prenga headed wide from a Roberts Savaļnieks delivery. Cedric Kouadio also tested the Auda goalkeeper as the visitors looked to complete the turnaround.
Auda continued to offer a threat of their own. Appiah went narrowly wide from distance before forcing Matrevics into an excellent save in the 72nd minute, while Bongemba later had an effort blocked as the hosts searched for another breakthrough.
Neither team could find a winner, although RFS had one final opportunity in stoppage time. Savaļnieks delivered into the area for Stefan Panic, whose header went wide, before Puriņš denied Darko Lemajic from close range to preserve the point for Auda.
The draw leaves RFS one point ahead of second-placed Riga FC with five rounds remaining, while the RFS also have a game in hand and therefore remain in control of the title race. The two rivals are still scheduled to meet on November 8 in the final round of the Virslīga season.
