RFS completed a dramatic comeback in the 10th round of the Tonybet Virslīga, overturning a two-goal deficit before Stefan Panic converted a 90th-minute penalty to secure a wild 4-3 win over Ogre United.

Ogre came into the match under new guidance after Aleksandr Rekhviashvili’s resignation, with Latvian coach Kristers Putniņš leading the team against one of the league’s strongest sides. What followed was the most memorable match in Ogre United’s short Virslīga history.

The hosts stunned RFS in the 15th minute. After a corner, captain Kristers Čudars beat Marko Marić to the ball and headed home from close range, giving Ogre their first-ever lead in the Virslīga.

That lead lasted just over two minutes. RFS immediately pushed forward, and after several blocked attempts and a deflection inside the box, Ismael Diomande reacted quickest to make it 1-1.

Ogre refused to collapse. Midway through the first half, Markuss Kalniņš produced a superb individual run and won a penalty, which Čudars converted for his second goal of the match. Then, in the 42nd minute, Kalniņš struck again as creator, racing past Roberts Savaļnieks on the flank and setting up Emīls Evelons to make it 3-1.

But RFS answered almost instantly. A minute later, Diomande found Jānis Ikaunieks, who finished from close range to reduce the deficit before halftime and keep the visitors alive.

The second half began with RFS applying pressure, though Ogre defended with commitment. The equaliser finally came in the 57th minute from a set piece, as Žiga Lipušček headed in Roberts Savaļnieks’ delivery to make it 3-3.

From there, RFS kept searching for their first lead of the match. Ogre held on bravely and even forced late corners, but the decisive moment came in the 89th minute, when Rūdolfs Ziemelis brought down Lipušček inside the box. Panic stepped up and sent Ņikita Parfjonovs the wrong way to complete the comeback.

Ogre still tried to respond deep into stoppage time, but RFS survived the final push and escaped with three points from one of the most dramatic games of the season.

The victory sends RFS back to the top of the table, while Ogre United remain last despite producing one of their best attacking performances of the campaign.
