FK Auda returned to winning ways in the Tonybet Virslīga with a 1-0 victory over Grobiņa, as Rolandas Baravykas’ late own goal decided a tight Matchday 29 encounter.
Auda controlled the ball more in the opening minutes while Grobiņa were forced into an early change when experienced Brazilian forward Dodo suffered an injury and was replaced by Artjoms Puzirevskis in the 14th minute.
Despite Auda’s territorial dominance, clear chances were difficult to come by. Wally Fofana tested Roberts Ozols from distance in the 17th minute, while Eduards Daškevičs and Edvin Bongemba also tried their luck without finding the breakthrough. Grobiņa threatened sporadically through Milan Corryn and Anton Baydal, but the first half ended goalless.
Auda increased the pressure after the break. Daškevičs forced Ozols into a save shortly after the restart, while Brian Pena, introduced at half-time, also tested the Grobiņa goalkeeper from outside the box. Kader Kone twice went close from distance as the hosts continued searching for the opening goal.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 76th minute. Barthelemy Diedhiou drove into the penalty area from the left and sent the ball towards the near post, where Baravykas attempted to clear under pressure but inadvertently diverted it into his own net.
Grobiņa were unable to produce a serious response in the closing stages, while Auda came close to adding a second through Andrews Appiah and Moussa Ouedraogo. The hosts ultimately saw out the final minutes to secure all three points with a narrow 1-0 victory.
