Tonybet Virslīga newcomers Ogre United, who are still searching for the first victory in club history in Latvia’s top flight, will attempt to change their fortunes under a new head coach, as Cypriot club Aris Limassol officially announced that Latvian specialist Viktors Mazurs will leave the club to become Ogre United’s new manager. The information was also confirmed to Sportacentrs.com by Ogre United director Emīls Latkovskis.

The 37-year-old coach spent 11 years working within the FK Metta system before moving to Cyprus three years ago to join Aris Limassol. During his time there, Mazurs worked primarily as a youth coach, while also serving as an assistant coach for the club’s first team during the second half of this season.

In their official statement, Aris wrote that Mazurs “joined the Aris family in 2023 and during his time at the club, he worked successfully across several age groups in the Academy, making a valuable contribution to the development and progress of the club’s young footballers.”

Ogre United began their debut Virslīga campaign under coach Aleksandrs Rekhviashvili, who left the club at the end of April after nine matches in charge, having collected three draws and six defeats. Since then the club’s situation has only worsened, with Ogre currently sitting firmly at the bottom of the Virslīga table on just three points after 14 matches.

Mazurs, who has also previously worked as an assistant coach with various Latvian youth national teams, will now take on his first-ever role as a head coach at senior level.

However, according to Sportacentrs.com, the 37-year-old specialist will not yet be with the team for Monday’s Virslīga match, when Ogre United host FK Grobiņa at home.
