In the TonyBet Virslīga match, defending champions FC RFS managed to secure a 2:1 victory against SK Super Nova thanks to a controversial goal by Cedric Kouadio in the second half.

Super Nova made a few changes to their starting lineup compared to their previous game against BFC Daugavpils. Three players were unable to participate in this match since they are on loan from RFS: Jevgēņijs Miņins, Frenks Orols, and Mamadou Sylla. As a result, Dāvis Viljams Veisbuks received his first start of the season in goal.

On the other hand, RFS played without Fabrice Ondoa in goal for the first time, with Sergejs Vilkovs taking over as the starting goalkeeper. Herdi Prenga also made his first start of the season, while Latvian footballer of the year 2024 Jānis Ikaunieks missed the match due to an injury, marking his first absence of the season.

RFS took an early lead in the match when Lasha Odisharia crossed the ball to the back post for Stefan Panic, who headed it back to the middle where Darko Lemajic was unmarked. Lemajic scored his fifth goal of the season.

During the first half, Super Nova created several excellent scoring opportunities. However, Sergejs Vilkovs, in his first start, made crucial saves to keep RFS ahead. Just before halftime, Super Nova finally broke through with a beautifully placed free-kick goal by Ralfs Šitjakovs, which struck the top right corner, leaving Vilkovs with no chance. This tied the game at 1:1.

In the second half, RFS scored another controversial goal. Lasha Odisharia began the play with a cross to Darko Lemajic, who knocked it down for Cedric Kouadio. The Ivorian took a close-range shot that Super Nova goalkeeper Dāvis Veisbuks managed to get his hands on and appeared to save. However, the assistant referee alerted the main referee that the ball had entirely crossed the line, declaring the goal valid.

From the angles available, it seemed the ball did not fully cross the line, but without VAR to review the play, the goal stood. RFS had previously scored a controversial goal against Daugavpils weeks earlier when Lemajic had scored with his arm.

Despite the controversy, RFS held on for the win, marking their third consecutive victory. Meanwhile, Super Nova suffered their first defeat after two straight draws.
