In the Matchday 8 clash of the TonyBet Virslīga, BFC Daugavpils scored four goals to secure a 4:2 victory over their table rivals, FK Liepāja, at home.
Both teams entered this match tied on points, each with ten after their first seven games. In the previous season, three out of four encounters between these two teams ended in draws, while FK Liepāja won the only game that was decided.
BFC Daugavpils opened the scoring in the 6th minute when Mohamed Kone found the back of the net. The Ivorian forward scored for the second consecutive match, marking his third goal of the season. In the second half, Daugavpils extended their lead following a counter-attack, as Valērijs Lizunovs set up Wally Fofana just inside the edge of the box. Fofana’s shot beat Liepāja goalkeeper Danijel Petkovic, making it 2:0.

However, just seconds later, Wally Fofana capitalized on a lapse in the Liepāja defense, scoring again to restore the two-goal cushion.
In the 86th minute, Djibril Gueye scored his second goal of the match from a corner kick, narrowing the score to 3:2. Yet once again, Daugavpils responded quickly after the kick-off, pressing into the Liepāja penalty area and creating a dangerous opportunity. This time, a Liepāja defender fouled an attacker, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Kristians Kaušelis confidently converted the penalty, finalizing the score at 4:2.
As the match concluded, BFC Daugavpils achieved their fourth win of the season, moving up to 3rd place in the league table, while FK Liepāja remained in 6th place with ten points.
