In the only match of Matchday 7 in the TonyBet Virslīga on Monday, FK Liepāja secured a 1:0 victory at home against FS Jelgava, thanks to a goal from Djibril Gueye.
Liepāja aimed to end their three-game losing streak, while Jelgava sought to extend their winning run. Jelgava started the match better, with Kristers Alekseičiks creating two excellent chances to score with headers early on. One attempt was saved by Petkovic, while the other went just over the goal.
Despite appearing unmotivated in the early stages, Liepāja managed to find the back of the net late in the first half during their first real chance. Samba had a lot of space on the left side; he passed the ball to Leidsmann, who was on the edge of the box. Although Leidsmann struggled to control the ball while being pressed by Jelgava defenders, the ball somehow reached Djibril Gueye, who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper, scoring his third goal of the season and making it 1:0.
Early in the second half, Liepāja had an opportunity to double their lead when Bruno Melnis took a shot from longer range, but it went wide. After that, the match was largely dominated by Jelgava as Liepāja shifted to a more defensive approach, aiming to maintain their clean sheet.
