Virslīga leaders RFS continued their strong start to the final phase of the season with a 3-0 victory away to bottom side Ogre United on Sunday in the Virslīga Matchday 28 game.
Aleksandar Filipovic opened the scoring in the 36th minute from the penalty spot after VAR review led referee to award a penalty for Dāvis Vējkrīgers’ challenge on Jānis Ikaunieks.
RFS were awarded another spot-kick after the break when Matvii Marusiy was penalised for catching Dmitrijs Zelenkovs in the area, and Filipovic converted again in the 61st minute.
Ogre United had been reduced to 10 men in the 49th minute, when Kristers Čudars received a second yellow card for a dangerous challenge in midfield.
Substitute Rostand Ndjiki added RFS’s third goal in the 79th minute, finishing into the near corner after a pass from Ikaunieks. Ndjiki had earlier found the net, but the goal was disallowed for handball.
RFS sit at the top of Virslīga with a four point advantage over Riga FC, who will play their round 28 match tomorrow away at Liepāja. Meanwhile Ogre continue to be in the bottom of the table six points behind ninth place Tukums.
