FK Liepāja has announced that they have mutually agreed to part ways with manager Dino Skender after only five games. According to sources Jānis Goba is expected to serve as the interim manager.
The 41-year-old Croatian manager was appointed as the new manager of Liepāja before the season, succeeding long-time coach Tamaz Pertia. Prior to joining Liepāja, Dino managed Croatian club NK Osijek, Slovenian side NK Olimpija Ljubljana, and Bosnian team Siroki Brijeg.
Under Dino’s management, Liepāja started the season well, earning seven points from the first three games with victories against FK Metta and FK Grobiņa, and a draw against FK Tukums 2000. However, the team faced heavy defeats in the last two matches, losing to both Rīga sides: FC RFS 1-4 and Riga FC 2-5. The game against Riga FC ultimately marked his final match in charge.
Jānis Goba will take over as interim manager. The Latvian coach previously worked within the FK Metta system and managed Skanstes SK before joining Dino Skender’s staff in Liepāja.
FK Liepāja’s next match will be an away game against FK Auda on Wednesday.
