As per our sources, FK Liepāja has secured the services of one of last season’s standout players, defensive midfielder Andriy Korobenko.

The 27-year-old Ukrainian, a product of Shakhtar Donetsk’s esteemed academy, had previously spent his entire career in Ukraine before joining Valmiera in the summer of 2023. Korobenko’s 2024 season proved to be an exceptional one on a personal level. Renowned for his consistent performances, he played nearly every minute of every match, earning attention from scouts all over Europe.

In total, Korobenko featured in 33 games last season, missing only three matches due to yellow card suspensions. While primarily deployed as a defensive midfielder, he stepped in as a center-back for three matches when Valmiera’s central defenders were sidelined by injury.

Korobenko is now expected to join FK Liepāja, a club undergoing significant transformation during the offseason. With an increased budget and ambitious goals, FK Liepāja has been actively strengthening their squad in preparation for the upcoming season. The team aims to contend for a top-three finish in the league.

As part of their preseason preparations, FK Liepāja has arranged friendly matches against FC Džiugas on January 18 and FK Banga on January 24, before departing for a training camp in Turkey on January 26.
