Žalgiris Vilnius have strengthened their defence ahead of the decisive stage of the season with the signing of 24-year-old Cameroon centre-back Sidoine Fogning.

The 191cm left-footed defender arrived in Vilnius this week, successfully completed his medical and signed a contract running until the end of the 2028 season. As Fogning was a free agent before the registration deadline, Žalgiris will still be able to register him for the remainder of the current campaign.

Fogning began his career in Cameroon with YOSA before moving to Europe in 2023 to join Portuguese side SC Coimbrões. In February 2025, he signed for Boavista and went on to make 13 consecutive appearances in the Portuguese top flight, completing the full 90 minutes in every match.

He later joined Slovan Bratislava on loan, winning the Slovak league title and gaining further European experience. Fogning featured in Europa League qualifying as well as the main stage of the UEFA Conference League.

“Sidoine is a tall, physically strong left-footed central defender who already has experience in the Portuguese and Slovak leagues,” Žalgiris sporting director Giedrius Klevinskas said. “We expect him to increase competition in defence and become an important addition both this season and in the future.”

Fogning becomes only the second Cameroonian player in Žalgiris history. Around two decades ago, fellow defender Bertrand Ngapounou also represented the Vilnius club.

Fogning could make his debut as early as Sunday, when Žalgiris travel to face Toplyga leaders Sūduva in Marijampolė.
