Lithuanian midfielder Lukas Michelbrink and Energie Cottbus were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal on Saturday after a 0-2 home defeat to Bundesliga side Augsburg. Meanwhile, Lithuania international Vilius Armalas played the full 90 minutes as MTK Budapest claimed a 2-1 victory over Nyíregyháza in the Hungarian top flight.

Michelbrink, 21, once again started in the Energie Cottbus line-up and helped his side keep Augsburg at bay during the first half, with the teams going into the break level at 0-0.

The Bundesliga visitors eventually broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart through Anton Kade and sealed their place in the next round deep into stoppage time, when Croatian midfielder Kristijan Jakic added a second goal.

Michelbrink played 84 minutes before being substituted, making his fourth appearance of the season. Although Cottbus’ DFB-Pokal campaign has come to an end, they now return their focus to the 2. Bundesliga, where they will host Greuther Fürth next Saturday.

In Hungary, centre-back Vilius Armalas completed his second consecutive full match as MTK Budapest secured a 2-1 home win over Nyiregyhaza.

The hosts made the perfect start by opening the scoring in the third minute. Nyiregyhaza were handed a chance to equalise later in the first half but Marko Kvasina failed to convert from the penalty spot. The Austrian striker made amends 13 minutes later, however, finding the net to level the match before the interval.

MTK restored their advantage midway through the second half through in-form Hungarian forward Gabor Jurek, who scored his second goal of the match and his fifth of the league season to secure all three points.

Armalas has now featured in all five of MTK Budapest’s league matches this season, starting the last two. With eight points from five games, MTK sit third in the Hungarian top-flight standings.

Their next fixture comes on Friday with an away trip to Debrecen.
