Žalgiris came from behind twice before snatching a late 3-2 Toplyga win away to Hegelmann in Raudondvaris.

With one eye on Thursday’s UEFA Conference League qualifier in Tbilisi, Žalgiris made seven changes to their starting XI but fell behind inside nine minutes when 21-year old Dominykas Pašilys struck low from around 20 metres into the left corner.

The visitors levelled on 18th minute after Donatas Kazlauskas brought down Gustas Jarusevičius in the penalty area and veteran Liviu Antal converted from the spot.

Žalgiris went close early in the second half, only for a headered effort to be cleared off the line, but Hegelmann regained the lead on 51 minutes when Wesley hit a first-time 30-metre shot that dropped in off the crossbar.

After Lupano’s header clipped the bar at the other end, Žalgiris were awarded a second penalty following a VAR review for a Vilius Armanavičius handball. Nikola Petković made it 2-2 in the 73rd minute. Žalgiris kept pressing and Petković completed the comeback late on, heading in from Bryan Teixeira’s delivery to secure the three points.

Žalgiris return to European action on 30th July, hosting Dinamo Tbilisi in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League second qualifying round tie, with kick-off at 20:00.
