Panevėžys claimed an important 3-1 away victory over Hegelmann in Matchday 30 of the Toplyga, closing the gap on the teams above them in the standings.
The match started at a good tempo, with both sides creating early openings. Valdas Paulauskas had a chance after a pass from Salomon Kouadio, while Donatas Kazlauskas responded at the other end with an effort that was comfortably gathered by Vytautas Černiauskas.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. Rokas Rasimavičius delivered an excellent ball into the penalty area, where Isaac Asante timed his run well and headed Panevėžys into a 1-0 lead.
Toni Korkeakunnas’ side made a strong start to the second half and doubled their advantage in the 51st minute. Ernestas Burdzilauskas tried his luck from distance, with a deflection changing the direction of the ball and leaving Hegelmann goalkeeper Lukas Paukštė helpless.
Panevėžys struck again soon afterwards. Dovydas Balsys supplied the pass and Kwadwo Asamoah finished through the legs of Paukštė to make it 3-0.
Hegelmann pulled one back in the 66th minute. Černiauskas interrupted a pass from Esmilis Kaušinis, but the rebound fell kindly for Abdoul Samada Haroun, who converted from close range.
There was no further comeback from the hosts, however, as Panevėžys saw out the match to secure all three points.
The victory moves Panevėžys onto 32 points in seventh place, bringing them closer to the sides above them. Hegelmann remain eighth with 24 points.
