Tonybet Virslīga Round 15 delivered another difficult away trip to Daugavpils for FK Auda, but in the end it was local-born winger Eduards Dašķevičs who became the hero with a late winner in a 1-0 victory over BFC Daugavpils.
The match started at a high tempo with both sides creating early chances. Daugavpils threatened first when Rostand Ndjiki narrowly missed the target after only a minute, while Auda quickly responded through Youba Traore, whose header was comfortably saved by Jānis Beks.
Auda suffered an early setback in the 12th minute when Traore was forced off through injury and replaced by Hussaini Ibrahim.
The visitors still looked dangerous in attack, especially through the combination of Kader Kone and Eduards Dašķevičs. In the 18th minute Dašķevičs came closest to opening the scoring when his left-footed effort from the right side of the box struck the post.
Daugavpils also had their moments. Joel Yakubu forced Nils Puriņš into a save midway through the first half, while Mamadou Sylla wasted a promising counterattack opportunity shortly before halftime.
The second half became increasingly physical with both teams struggling to create clear openings. Auda slowly began to gain territorial control after the introduction of Wally Fofana and Ariel Arroyo, while Daugavpils relied heavily on transitions and set pieces.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 82nd minute. Wally Fofana found Eduards Dašķevičs on the right flank and the Daugavpils-born winger used a few touches and with his left foot curled the ball into the far corner to give Auda a massive late lead.
Daugavpils pushed forward desperately in the closing minutes and created several dangerous situations from crosses and set pieces. William Mukwelle had the best chance deep into stoppage time, but his header flew over the bar as Auda held on for all three points.
