FK Auda produced one of the most dominant performances of the Tonybet Virslīga season, crushing FK Grobiņa 7-0 at home in the 11th round and temporarily moving to the top of the league standings.
The visitors had no answers from the opening minutes as Auda’s attacking quality and Grobiņa’s defensive mistakes combined for a disastrous evening for Oskars Kļava’s side.
Auda opened the scoring already in the eighth minute through the unstoppable Josue Vergara. After Eduards Dašķevičs delivered a dangerous ball into the box from a set piece, the 18-year-old Panamanian forward guided a header into the net for his ninth league goal of the season and fifth in his last four matches.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 28th minute. Edvin Bongemba delivered a cross from the left side and Ibrahim Kone’s header went straight at goalkeeper Ņikita Pinčuks, but the Grobiņa keeper failed to control the ball as it bounced off him and into the net.
The first-half collapse was completed just before the break when Vergara struck again. Once more Dašķevičs was involved, and another mistake from Pinčuks allowed the Panamanian teenager to score his tenth goal of the campaign and make it 3-0.
Grobiņa head coach Oskars Kļava reacted drastically at halftime, making two substitutions including a goalkeeper change, replacing Pinčuks with Vjačeslavs Kudrjavcevs after two costly errors.
The changes made little difference.
Between the 50th and 59th minute Auda scored three more times as Grobiņa completely fell apart defensively. Another mistake inside the penalty area allowed Dašķevičs to receive the ball and shoot. Although the initial effort was blocked, no Grobiņa defender reacted to the loose ball, while Wally Fofana was quickest to pounce and score for 4-0.
Moments later another defensive disaster gifted Auda their fifth. Gustavs Leitāns failed to clear the ball, allowing Tin Hrvoj to burst into the box from the right and finish comfortably past Kudrjavcevs.
Fofana then added his second of the evening with a powerful strike from the edge of the box to make it 6-0 and further underline Grobiņa’s nightmare performance.
Despite the heavy deficit, Grobiņa still searched for a consolation goal, but Rodrigo Gaučis summed up the visitors’ evening by firing wildly off target from a promising position.
Auda were not done yet. Jayden Gerold first rattled the crossbar before, just 20 seconds later, curling a superb free kick through the Grobiņa wall and beyond Kudrjavcevs to complete the 7-0 rout.
With the victory, Auda move level on points with RFS at the top of the table with 25 points and at least temporarily claim first place. Meanwhile, Grobiņa’s winless streak stretched to seven matches, with their last victory coming back on March 21.
Auda now face a major title showdown next Tuesday against Riga FC at Skonto Stadium, while Grobiņa return home a day earlier to host FS Jelgava.
