FS Jelgava responded to their heavy defeat in Tukums with a much-needed 1-0 home victory over SK Super Nova in the opening match of the 11th round of the Tonybet Virslīga.

After the 0-5 loss five days earlier, Jelgava changed their system and switched to a back four. The reaction was immediate. Already in the opening minute, Tomaš Rataj forced Dāvis Veisbuks into a sharp save, setting the tone for a first half largely controlled by the hosts.

Jelgava continued to create the better chances. Roberts Meļķis wasted a free header from the middle of the box after Rataj’s cross, before later testing Veisbuks again after breaking into a dangerous position. Super Nova, meanwhile, struggled to find rhythm and were hit by injuries late in the first half, with Eduards Emsis and Ibrahima Diop both forced off.

After the break, Super Nova adjusted their shape and finally began to threaten. Adam Dvorak was called into action to deny Agris Glaudāns, while Facundo Garcia also tried his luck from distance. Still, Jelgava remained the sharper side in the key moments.

The breakthrough finally came in the 82nd minute. Experienced Czech midfielder Filip Hašek carried the ball through the middle, beat two opponents and struck low toward the far corner. Veisbuks had played well until then, but could not deal with the bounce, and the ball found the net. It was Hašek’s fourth goal of the season.

Jelgava held firm in the closing minutes, with Super Nova unable to find a late response despite several set-piece situations. The result also continued Super Nova’s winless run against Jelgava, with the club still without a victory in ten head-to-head meetings.

For Jelgava, this was the perfect reaction after the disappointment in Tukums and a return to winning ways. On Monday, they travel to face Grobiņa, while Super Nova will host Tukums 2000.
