In the opening Virslīga match at Skonto Stadium, champions Riga FC comfortably defeated newcomers Ogre United 4-0. Reginaldo Ramires was the standout performer, scoring once and providing two assists.
For this first match at Skonto Stadium, head coach Adrian Gul’a made one change to Riga’s starting lineup compared to the previous game against FK Grobiņa with Andres Salazar missing this game because of injury and Emīls Birka coming in. Meanwhile, Ogre United manager Aleksandr Rekhviashvili made five changes following his side’s strong draw against Auda.
Riga were not at their sharpest in the early minutes, and the first real chance of the match fell to the visitors. Haralds Silagailis fired from a tight angle, forcing Krišjānis Zviedris into an alert save to keep the score level.
However, from that moment on, it was all Riga FC. The hosts stepped up the tempo and took the lead in the 16th minute. Reginaldo Ramires made a strong run down the right flank and delivered a pass into the box, where Orlando Galo arrived from deep and finished confidently with a low shot past goalkeeper Krišjānis Jānis Biščuhis, who was making just his second appearance of the season.
The game became more physical after the opening goal, with both sides battling hard for control. Riga eventually doubled their lead just before halftime. Once again, Ramires was involved, this time setting up Muhammed Badamosi, who scored his sixth goal of the season.
Riga extended their advantage early in the second half. Ramires capped off his excellent performance by adding a goal to his two assists, finishing precisely into the bottom-left corner to make it 3-0.
After the third goal, Riga eased off slightly, allowing Ogre United more freedom going forward. The visitors looked dangerous on the counter and nearly won a penalty when Silagailis went down in the box, but despite strong protests, the referee waved play on.
Late in the match, Riga reasserted their dominance and added a fourth goal. Badamosi played the ball into the penalty area, where it deflected off Antonijs Černomordijs and fell perfectly for Salah Oulad, who calmly finished into an empty net.
With the win, Riga FC move up to second place in the table with 19 points, setting up a massive Rīga derby next Tuesday against league leaders RFS, who are two points ahead.
Meanwhile, Ogre United remain in search of their first win of the season. Their next opportunity will come on Monday when they face FS Jelgava.
