A Lyga club FK Riteriai have taken a significant step toward a new chapter in their history after confirming the sale of part of the club’s shares to Dutch football development organisation 4ThePlayers Academy. The agreement, signed on Tuesday, is designed to strengthen the club both sporting-wise and organisationally, with a clear long-term vision at its core.
4ThePlayers Academy has spent several years working with young footballers across Europe, guiding them through the early stages of their professional careers. The academy brings a philosophy built around youth development, sustainable club management, and a modern approach to football. As part of the new structure, Riteriai will become an integrated system that links grassroots and youth football, the academy, and the first team into a unified pathway.
In this new phase, Riteriai aim to play progressive, modern football with a strong emphasis on player development. Close cooperation between the academy and the senior squad is intended to ensure young players have a clear and realistic route into professional football. Planned investments will focus on coaching staff, infrastructure, sports science, and talent identification, while maintaining strong ties with the local football community.
“This is not just a change of ownership – it is a long-term football project,” said 4ThePlayers Academy director Clancy Osei Konadu. “Riteriai give us the opportunity to implement a vision inspired by the best European clubs. We want to build a team that develops players, plays attractive football, and consistently competes at the top of the A Lyga, offering opportunities to both local and international talents.”
Club founder and long-time owner Jan Nevoina expressed relief and optimism after what he described as a very challenging period for the club in 2025.
“The negotiations took time because it was important to find a reliable partner with a clear direction,” Nevoina explained. “After last year’s experience, we didn’t want to repeat the same mistakes. Everyone knows the level of Dutch football education – it’s renowned for its systematic youth work, modern thinking, and long-term planning. For me personally, it was essential that Riteriai’s vision remains unchanged: young players must continue to get opportunities in the first team. I truly believe the club is moving into good hands.”
After securing their place through last season’s relegation play-offs, Riteriai are preparing – following a one-year absence – to begin their 12th season in Lithuania’s A Lyga. The club’s name will remain unchanged, with an emphasis on stability and continuity. The new owners have also committed to close cooperation with the club’s community and partners.
Further details regarding sporting decisions, academy operations, and long-term plans are expected to be announced in the near future.
