Toplyga leaders Marijampolė Sūduva produced another dramatic late escape, scoring twice in stoppage time to come from behind and beat FK TransINVEST 2-1 away from home, extending their advantage at the top of the table to nine points.
Played in difficult conditions with strong wind affecting both teams, the first major chance fell to the hosts. Chidera Nwoga controlled a long ball on his chest and laid it off for Stefan Miloševic, whose powerful long-range effort crashed against the crossbar.
Sūduva struggled to create much during the opening half. Most of their attempts came from distance and failed to seriously trouble the TransINVEST goal, while the hosts looked more dangerous when delivering crosses into the penalty area. The league leaders defended those situations well, however, and the teams went into half-time level at 0-0.
The breakthrough arrived in the 59th minute. Oleksandr Musolitin sent a cross into the area, Miloševic knocked the ball down and Xabi Auzmendi met it with a powerful finish to put TransINVEST 1-0 ahead.
Musolitin continued to cause Sūduva problems with his deliveries, but the visitors knew they needed a response if they were to maintain control of the title race. Head coach Donatas Vencevičius turned to his bench, introducing several attacking players including Faustas Steponavičius, Tom Lucky and Meinardas Mikulėnas.
The changes gradually shifted the momentum. Sūduva began to create more pressure and spend longer periods around the TransINVEST penalty area, but the equaliser refused to arrive until stoppage time.
In the first added minute, Henry Uzochukwu played the ball into the box and substitute Tom Lucky redirected it into the net to make it 1-1 and seemingly rescue a point for the visitors.
Sūduva were not finished. Deep into stoppage time, the league leaders won a series of corners and continued to throw players forward. From the final delivery, Amadou Sabo was left unmarked in front of goal and the Niger international made no mistake, scoring the winner with virtually the final action of the match.
The 2-1 victory moved Sūduva nine points clear at the top of the Toplyga table, although second-placed FK Kauno Žalgiris still have two matches in hand. TransINVEST, meanwhile, missed the chance to close the gap to just three points and remain third, now also nine points behind the leaders.
