Lithuanian club FC Hegelmann have announced a major signing after securing the services of former Cameroon national team midfielder Samuel Oum Gouet, who represented his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder, who is also capable of playing as a central defender, joins Hegelmann from Romanian side Poli Iași, where he spent one season. During his time in Romania, Oum Gouet made 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.
Oum Gouet brings significant international experience, having earned 25 caps for Cameroon. He featured at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, playing the full match against Switzerland and coming off the bench against Serbia. In the same year, he also helped Cameroon finish third at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking after completing his move, Oum Gouet expressed his excitement about joining the club.
“I am very excited and very happy to be here. It is a great honor to join this club. I hope this season will be special, and together we can make it a historic one,” he said.
The Cameroonian midfielder also noted that he has never previously played in European club competitions, an opportunity Hegelmann can offer this summer as the club prepares to compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
During his European career, Oum Gouet has represented several clubs across the continent, including SCR Altach in Austria, KV Mechelen in Belgium, Yverdon Sport in Switzerland, and most recently Poli Iași in Romania.
Oum Gouet will wear number 10 with the Hegelmann.
