TransINVEST, a club only founded in 2021, made waves in Europe last year as they became one of the rare non-top tier clubs to qualify for European football by winning the national cup. Domestically, TransINVEST became the first ever non-top tier club to win the LFF Cup at all.
Unfortunately, the meteoric rise of the Vilnius club was not enough to keep it in the Lithuanian top flight and, despite earning a respectable 38 points in their debut season, TransINVEST just only failed to avoid the bottom spot in what turned out to be an end-of-season relegation thriller! Still in 9th place with a one point lead over FK Sūduva and two points behind FC Džiugas Telšiai with one game to go, things were not looking at all hopeless for the young club. In the final game of the season, their immediate competitors Džiugas were up against the Champions FK Žalgiris and last place FK Sūduva were facing bronze medalists Žalgiris from Kaunas. TransINVEST had a much easier draw in the form of a struggling FK Panevėžys, only three points ahead of them.
As it turned out, both Žalgiris clubs lost. Žalgiris Vilnius to Džiugas 1-0, and Žalgiris Kaunas to Sūduva 4-2. Meanwhile, TransINVEST played a goalless draw with Panevėžys and dropped to the bottom of the table and will play in the second tier next year.
