Lithuanian Cup winners FK Panevėžys have confirmed that experienced goalkeeper Vytautas Černiauskas will remain the club’s No.1, having signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club through the 2026 season.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper is set to enter his fourth straight season with the club. In the recently completed campaign, the former Lithuania international was ever-present, featuring in every match and completing every minute available. Across 36 appearances, he conceded 49 goals and recorded nine clean sheets.
Černiauskas was a key figure in Panevėžys’ successful Cup run, helping the club lift the trophy for just the second time in their history. That triumph has also secured them a spot in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers next season.
Looking back on the year, Černiauskas described the season as one of mixed outcomes:
“It was a season of contrasts. Winning the Cup and qualifying for Europe is something to be happy about, but our league form was inconsistent. We often conceded late goals, which cost us a better position in the standings.
Next season, I want us to be stronger. I still have the hunger to play and want to give everything I can to this club. I also believe I can continue helping our young goalkeepers develop, and that my experience is important for the whole team.”
Over the course of his career, Černiauskas has gained experience across several European leagues, representing clubs such as FC Vaslui and Dinamo Bucharest in Romania, Korona Kielce in Poland, Ermis Aradippou in Cyprus, CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria, and FC RFS in Latvia.
