Lithuanian Cup holders FK Panevėžys have announced that they have extended the contract of centre-back Justinas Januševskis, who will remain with the club for the upcoming season.
The 31-year-old defender returned to Panevėžys this year after a three-season absence and made 33 appearances in the A Lyga campaign, scoring once. Januševskis also lifted the Lithuanian Cup for the second consecutive year [FK Banga Gargždai 2024] and the third time in his career, featuring in four of the team’s five matches and playing every minute. The cup triumph will send Panevėžys into next season’s European competitions.
This is Januševskis’ second stint with the club, having previously represented Panevėžys in the 2020 and 2021 seasons – winning the Lithuanian Cup in 2020. Over the course of his career, the experienced centre-back has also played for Trakai – where he began his professional journey – FK Riteriai, FK Sūduva, and FK Banga Gargždai, amassing 332 A Lyga appearances to date.
Reflecting on the season, Januševskis told fk-panevezys.lt:
“From a personal perspective, I can say the season was good. I had plenty of playing time, avoided injuries, and we won the cup. On the other hand, as a defender I would have liked to concede fewer goals, and from the team’s point of view, of course, we wanted to finish among the medal positions, but it didn’t work out. Thankfully, we managed to win the cup again, which brings the club back to European competition. So overall, the season wasn’t bad.
“There were never thoughts about waiting for offers or trying my luck abroad. I wanted to stay in Panevėžys, and we quickly reached an agreement with the club’s management to extend the contract.”
