Late Sanokho goal gives Sūduva a point against the leaders Kauno Žalgiris

In the rescheduled Lithuanian A Lyga Round 24 match, league leaders Kauno Žalgiris faced off against FK Sūduva. Both teams found the net in the second half, and the encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.

Both sides entered the game on the back of narrow league victories: Kauno Žalgiris had edged past FC Džiugas Telšiai, while Sūduva had claimed three points against Banga Gargždai.

The home side welcomed back one of their attacking leaders, Amine Benchaib, who had missed the previous match through suspension. Meanwhile, Sūduva head coach Donatas Vencevičius handed a first start to his late-summer signing, Titas Milašius.

From the opening whistle, Eivinas Černiauskas’ men dictated the tempo, though their shots mostly flew wide of Ignas Plūkas’ goal. The visitors grew bolder after the half-hour mark – Milašius tested Tomas Švedkauskas, while Žalgiris responded through Fedor Černych.

The breakthrough came soon after the restart. In the 51st minute, Kauno Žalgiris midfielder Fabien Ourega struck a stunning effort from outside the box, firing into the top corner. Moments later, Sūduva nearly leveled through Kota Sakurai, but his shot whisked just past the post.

The hosts’ evening took a turn in the 82nd minute when midfielder Divine Naah was shown a red card, leaving Žalgiris with ten men. Deep into stoppage time, Sūduva made their advantage count – Sidy Sanokho latched onto a cross and slotted home to snatch a valuable point for the Marijampolė side.

Despite the late drama, Kauno Žalgiris remain top of the table with 64 points, while Sūduva sit third with 50 points.
