
Lithuanian league leaders FK Žalgiris Kaunas have reinforced their squad ahead of the remainder of the football season by signing 24-year-old winger Jaire Tavares.
The Portuguese player is a product of the famous SL Benfica academy, where he spent 15 years, featuring for several youth sides as well as the club’s B team.
In 2022, Tavares began his international career, moving to Scotland to join Hibernian. In 2024, he was loaned to another Scottish Premiership side, Motherwell. Over his time in Scotland, the attacking wide player made more than 50 appearances before becoming a free agent this summer.
Tavares has also represented Portugal at various youth levels, from U-15 to U-19, scoring seven goals in international competition. Notably, he is the cousin of well-known Portuguese international Renato Sanches.
After passing his medical in Kaunas, Tavares officially joined Žalgiris Kaunas. He will wear the number 18 shirt for the club.
