Estonian veteran Sergei Zenjov rolled back the years with a brace as reigning champions FC Flora Tallinn comfortably defeated JK Narva Trans 3-0 away from home, extending Trans’ miserable losing streak in the Premium Liiga to seven consecutive matches.
Coming into the match at the Fama Stadium, the contrast between the two teams could hardly have been bigger. Flora had won four straight league games and recently eliminated Trans from the Estonian Cup semi-finals, while Roman Kozhukhovski’s side had collapsed into a disastrous run of six consecutive league defeats with a goal difference of 2-25.
Flora immediately took control of possession and created the first dangerous moments. Sergei Zenjov struck the post early on following a set-piece situation, while Trans repeatedly survived nervous moments inside their own penalty area. The hosts offered very little going forward and spent long periods pinned back deep inside their own half.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 21st minute. Following a corner kick, Sander Alamaa recycled the ball back into the area where the experienced Zenjov arrived at the edge of the box and produced a superb first-time finish into the left corner. After a short VAR check for a possible offside, the goal stood.
Flora continued to dominate and doubled their advantage before halftime. The move started from goalkeeper Kaur Kivila, whose long pass reached Zenjov on the right wing. The veteran combined with Rauno Sappinen and Tony Varjund before receiving the ball back near the penalty spot and calmly placing his finish into the bottom corner for his second goal of the afternoon.
Any hopes of a comeback disappeared early in the second half when Flora scored again in the 53rd minute. Varjund won the ball near midfield and launched another flowing attack involving Zenjov and Sappinen before the ball eventually reached Alamaa, whose low strike from the edge of the penalty area found the bottom corner to make it 3-0.
Flora continued pushing for more goals throughout the second half, with Zenjov coming close to completing a hat-trick before eventually being substituted to applause after a dominant display. The 37-year-old forward finished with two goals, while also playing a key role in several other dangerous attacks.
Trans improved slightly late in the match and finally managed to spend some time inside Flora’s half, but the game was already effectively over. The home side struggled badly defensively once again and rarely looked capable of threatening Flora goalkeeper Kaur Kivila.
The defeat extends Narva Trans’ losing streak in the league to seven matches, with a brutal aggregate goal difference of 2-28 during that run. Flora meanwhile continue their excellent form with a fifth consecutive league victory as the reigning champions continue climbing toward the top of the Premium Liiga table.
