Sūduva dropped two important points in their Toplyga title challenge after Wesley Gabriel converted a stoppage-time penalty to earn Hegelmann a 1-1 draw in the 32nd round. Ibrahima Seck had given the visitors a first-half lead, but Hegelmann’s late pressure was eventually rewarded.
Sūduva made the brighter start in Raudondvaris, with Faustas Steponavičius forcing Lukas Paukštė into an early save before Moutir Chajia sent another opportunity off target. Hegelmann responded through Esmilis Kaušinis, whose powerful free-kick threatened the goal defended by Ignas Plūkas.
The visitors broke the deadlock shortly after the half-hour mark. Chajia won possession in midfield and drove forward before seeing his attempt blocked by a defender. Seck reacted quickest to the loose ball and made no mistake with the follow-up to put Donatas Vencevičius’ side 1-0 ahead.
Hegelmann had an excellent opportunity to equalise before the interval after a mistake from Rati Grigalava presented Kaušinis with a good shooting position, but his effort went directly at Plūkas.
The hosts increased the pressure after the restart and spent much more time around the Sūduva penalty area. Vilius Armanavičius caused problems for Plūkas with an effort that initially appeared relatively harmless, but Grigalava was alert to clear the danger before Hegelmann could capitalise.
Sūduva appeared to have done enough to protect their narrow advantage, only for the match to change deep into stoppage time when Hegelmann were awarded a penalty. Wesley stepped up and converted from the spot to rescue a point for the hosts and make Sūduva’s title run more difficult with the season approaching its decisive stage with Kauno Žalgiris regaining the lead after getting a win today at Šiauliai.
Hegelmann, meanwhile, moved onto 26 points but remain eighth in the Toplyga standings.
