Latvia U-19 international Nils Veinbergs scored for the second consecutive Veikkausliiga match after coming off the bench, helping TPS to a 3-1 away victory over VPS on Saturday.

The 19-year-old forward rescued a point for TPS last weekend with a stoppage-time equaliser against reigning Finnish champions and league leaders KuPS after coming on as a substitute. Once again, Veinbergs started on the bench, entering the match in the 75th minute with his side leading 2-0.

VPS pulled a goal back just a minute later to set up a tense finish, but Veinbergs quickly restored the two-goal cushion. In the 80th minute, he got in front of his defender to meet a cross from the left and headed the ball into the net to make it 3-1.

The goal was Veinbergs’ second in the Finnish top flight since joining TPS on loan from fellow Veikkausliiga club Ilves. He has now made six league appearances for the club.

The victory moves TPS level on points with sixth-placed Gnistan as they continue their push for a top-six finish. Veinbergs and his teammates return to action next Sunday when they host Inter Turku.
