Friday’s draw for the LVBET Latvian Cup last 16 has produced three all-Virslīga fixtures, with the remaining ties largely pairing top-flight sides against lower-league opposition.
The round marks the entry point for 10 Tonybet Virsliga clubs, who are joined by five LVBET līga teams – Mārupes SC, Metta, Riga Mariners, Leevon PPK and Valmiera FC – plus Altero.lv LIIGA side Spēks VSS. The five second-tier clubs have come through two qualifying rounds, while Spēks VSS are the only third-tier team left after winning through three stages.
One of the three all-Virslīga fixtures will see the defending Cup champions FK Auda hosting FK Liepāja, while others will be RFS FC against FS Jelgava and FK Tukums 2000 versus Super Nova.
We will have at least one non-Virslīga side in the quarterfinals as second division leaders FK Metta will host the only remaining third league team in the draw Spēks VSS.
Matches are scheduled to be played on 11-12 July.
