Latvia’s two Riga heavyweights are both in action on Saturday as the Tonybet Virslīga seventh round reaches its conclusion, with Riga FC and leaders RFS playing live on Sportacentrs.com and TV4.

Champions Riga FC travel to Liepāja for a 14:00 kick-off against Grobiņa, having recovered from a stuttering start to move back towards the top end of the table. Adrian Gula’s side beat Super Nova 4-1 last time out, after being held 3-3 by Tukums 2000.

Riga FC have set the early scoring pace, led by Mohamed Badamosi and Reginaldo Ramires – the league’s two top scorers at the moment. However, their defensive record has also come under scrutiny: after conceding just 26 goals across the entirety of last season, they have already let in nine in six league matches this campaign.

Grobiņa have made a solid opening, with two wins from their first six fixtures, and drew 1-1 with newcomers Ogre United in their most recent outing. Their last victory came on 21 March, a 1-0 win against Jelgava. Last season Riga won three of the four against them, with the remaining match ending in a draw after Riga had already secured the title.

At 16:00, table-toppers RFS host Super Nova. Viktors Morozs’ side have won five of their first six matches, with their only defeat coming in round four when they lost 1-0 to Auda. They returned to winning ways with a 2-1 success over Tukums 2000.

Super Nova have taken three wins from their first six games and include April’s Virslīga player of the month, Mārcis Ošs, in their squad. They were beaten 4-1 by Riga in the previous round, and face an RFS side that won all four head-to-head meetings last season, although Super Nova scored in each of those matches.
