RFS maintained their early-season momentum with a 2-0 Virsliga win over SK Super Nova at LNK Sporta Parks with both goals arriving in the second half.

Super Nova managed to keep the hosts frustrated during the first half, with sole decent chance being when Dāvis Veisbuks saved Ismael Diomande’s close-range attempt. The visitors stayed compact, disciplines and difficult to break down as RFS struggled to find flair and creative solutions. Moments before half-time, Darko Lemajič tried to turn in a cross from a tight angle but Veisbuks stood firm once again, allowing Super Nova to go into half-time on even footing.

RFS head coach Viktors Morozs made two changes at half-time and the breakthrough followed quickly as the team returned to the pitch visibly more aggressive, playing with more urgency. In the 48th minute, Jānis Ikaunieks showed off his ball handling skills to chip Veisbuks and put RFS ahead. Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Lipušček headed in from Filipovič’s corner to make it 2-0 in the 68th minute.

RFS could have added a third late on when Cedric Kuadio found himself one-on-one with the keeper but his shot went over thanks to pressure by hastily scrambling defenders. Super Nova then attempted to rally and even managed to put Marko Marič to the test, but RFS stood firm, reclaiming the top of the table spot, protecting their best defensive form in the league, and still leading defending Champions Riga FC by two points.
