Roberts Uldriķis made his first Eredivisie appearance since May 2023, but his return ended in defeat as Heerenveen lost 3-2 to AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.
Latvia international was subbed in on the 68th minute with Heerenveen leading 2-1. AZ equalised through Mexx Meerdink almost immediately, before Ayoub Oufkir scored the winner in the 83rd minute. Ro-Zangelo Daal had put the hosts ahead in the seventh minute, but Nolan Courtens and Ringo Meerveld turned the match around before half-time.
The result kept AZ at the top of the table with five wins from five matches. Heerenveen have taken one point from their last two fixtures and will host Telstar next Sunday.
Uldriķis previously represented Heerenvern’s arch-rivals Cambuur from 2021 to 2024 and scored seven goals in 21 Eredivisie appearances during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, including in derbies against his new club.
