Latvian youth international Dannī Aņisjko has signed for English League Two club Chesterfield after impressing during a trial following his departure from Nottingham Forest.

The 20-year-old winger spent several years in Nottingham Forest’s academy system but never made a senior appearance for the Premier League club. After his contract expired this summer, Aņisjko became a free agent and was invited to train with Chesterfield during pre-season, where he did enough to earn a permanent deal.

Following the announcement, Aņisjko expressed his delight at joining the club.

“I’ve been with the team since the start of pre-season and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the squad and representing the club in the friendlies we’ve had so far.

“The lads have been very welcoming and I’ve settled into the dressing room really well. I just want to keep working hard and I can’t wait to get started.”

Assistant manager Danny Webb praised the Latvian after confirming the signing.

“Danny has impressed since he came through the door on day one of pre-season and has put in a big effort to show his quality, as have all the lads we’ve had on trial.

“He has spent a lot of time in a top-class academy and we’ve seen snippets of his ability in the three friendlies we’ve had so far.

“Most importantly, he fits in well with the group and wants to play his football here. We’re all looking forward to seeing what he can produce when the season rolls around.”

Eligible to represent both Latvia and Ecuador through his family heritage, Anisjko has represented Latvia at Under-19 and Under-21 level. He has made seven appearances for the Latvian Under-21 national team and scored his first international goal during last month’s Baltic Cup.

Chesterfield compete in England’s fourth tier, League Two. Last season they finished sixth in the 24-team division to qualify for the promotion play-offs, where they were narrowly eliminated by Notts County 1-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

The Spireites will begin their 2026/27 League Two campaign on 15 August, with Aņisjko now hoping to establish himself in senior English football after progressing through Nottingham Forest’s academy.
