Italian Serie A club Como 1907 have announced that Latvia Under-21 international Kristiāns Mežsargs will spend the 2026/27 season on loan at Serie C newcomers Folgore Caratese.
The 20-year-old striker joined Como’s academy in February 2025 and enjoyed an outstanding campaign with the club’s Primavera side last season, finishing as the team’s top scorer with 16 goals in 25 appearances.
Seeking regular first-team football and his first sustained experience in senior football, Como have opted to send the Latvian forward out on loan to Folgore Caratese, who will compete in Serie C for the first time in the club’s history after winning promotion from Serie D last season.
An interesting aspect of Mežsargs new club is that it is owned by Italian journalist Michele Criscitiello, the owner of the sports television network Sportitalia.
A product of the FS Metta academy, Mežsargs has been in Italy since the beginning of 2022, when he joined Frosinone’s youth system. At international level, Mežsargs has made six appearances for Latvia’s Under-21 national team, scoring once.
