Latvia international striker Dario Šits has returned to the Netherlands after joining Eerste Divisie side FC Dordrecht on a season-long loan from Italian Serie A club Parma. The agreement also includes an option for Dordrecht to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
The 22-year-old spent last season with Atletico Madrid B, making 19 appearances for the Spanish club’s reserve side.
The move marks Šits’ second spell in Dutch football. During the 2023/24 season he was loaned to Helmond Sport, where he enjoyed the most productive period of his senior career to date, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 20 league appearances.
Šits now joins a Dordrecht side that finished 10th in the 20-team Eerste Divisie last season. The club last played in the Eredivisie in the 2014/15 campaign. Dordrecht were managed last season by former Netherlands international Dirk Kuyt, who has since joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce as an assistant coach. The team is now led by 33-year-old head coach Paul Nuijten, previously a coach within Ajax’s academy.
FC Dordrecht technical manager Sjoerd Ars welcomed the arrival of the Latvian forward. “We are very pleased to have signed Dario. There was a lot of interest in him, but he consciously chose FC Dordrecht because of our sporting project. Dario is a complete striker who is comfortable both with the ball at his feet and attacking space behind the defence. He has an eye for goal and puts enormous energy into his game. We are confident he will make an important contribution this season.”
Šits has represented the Latvian national team 12 times, scoring two goals. A product of the FK Metta academy, he has been under contract with Parma since the end of 2020, although he is yet to make his official first-team debut for the Italian club.
